Sleep: an invaluable ally for our skin!

Have you ever heard of World Sleep Day? One of the many “world days”, a day dedicated to sleep has now been added to the list. This year it falls on March 17th and celebrates the beneficial properties of sleep for our health, with a special focus on the problems that a lack of sleep can cause.

Sleep really helps improve our quality of life, as has been demonstrated by many studies and research projects: rest is an invaluable ally for our health and beauty. We all know that our bodies and minds need a good night’s rest so we can face the next day in the best possible way. Yet there are many other benefits linked to sleep.

Sleeping stimulates our memory and creativity. It is essential for good health, as a good night’s sleep helps to boost our immune system and keeps depression at bay. It also reduces stress.

But it doesn’t end there…sleeping is also good for our beloved skin.

In fact, since our skin is not subjected to external aggression during the night, it becomes more receptive and activates its mechanisms of self-repair, resulting in better cell renewal. Indeed, this is 10 times more efficient when we sleep, producing new collagen and elastin fibers.

Remember, a lack of sleep is the very first thing we note in a person’s face: deeper lines, bags and shadows under the eyes, and dull skin.

Before retiring for the night , it is crucial that we remove all traces of make-up and cleanse our faces thoroughly before applying a cream. Always massage creams from the center of the face outwards, from the base of your décolleté upwards.

The Dermophisiologique laboratories have developed two special products to help your body prepare for a good night’s sleep.

Draining Tisane: a mix of official medicinal plants, Birch leaves, Burdock and Rhubarb roots and Common Elder (Sambucus nigra) to favor depuration of the body and relieve tiredness, heaviness and fluid retention.

Another valid aide in favoring sleep and psychological relaxation is our RLS Relaxing Bath Oil: a physiological concentration with relaxing properties. Ideal if you’re suffering from physical or mental stress.  This bath oil contains Bitter Orange essential oil: much used in aromatherapy, it relaxes and soothes the mind.

So, what are you waiting for? If you don’t already make sure you sleep enough, do so now!

Because, after all, ensuring you get enough regular sleep  is key to a healthy lifestyle.
